ROVING REPORTER

Our roving reporter Ray Flores has been out on the road again, assessing fire damages. This time his wheels took him out on Hwy 76 east.

At Red Gate Road he reports that it looks as though most of the mobile homes are gone at the park there and at Pasal Road. "They look pretty well trashed," he said.

At the corner of South Grade & Hwy 78 he found two homes gutted.

As he traveled east on 76 going to the La Jolla Indian Reserve, 50 percent of homes looked gone.

He saw fire coming DOWN from the slopes of Palomar Mountain and trying to breach the highway to cross at where the La Jolla gas station is.

If you want to see if your house still stands, call your landline telephone. If the answering machine picks up -- good news.

Does anyone have an update on Paradise Mountain?

If your answering machine doesn't answer, DON'T PANIC. With power outages, that very well could be the reason it isn't working. This happened to my parents house yesterday, for awhile there was no machine and then power came back and we knew the house was ok!

Can I assume Valley Center is still closed to returning residents? I'm outside of San Diego county and I'm not sure when I can know for certain that I can return to VC.

unless you have the voicemail service through AT&T, which isn't located physically at your home.

My fried in Del Dios was checking her home phone for the answering machine. When the fire raged through she got nothing but a busy signal. Her house still stands! Don't despair if the answering machine is not working - power outages cause that too.

Did you see if homes on the hillside in Cuca Ranch were still there facing the 76? Not hearing Cuca mentioned anywhere. Or Oak Knoll campground? were trailers there?

I'm standing in North Hidden meadows looking East to what may be Hell Hole paradise (33deg 13'46.91"N and 116deg 56'23.06"W Google GPS). This is about 8-10 miles from me. I see a half circle of flames that are not doing much but I can't tell if that's Paradise Mtn or what. Does anyone know that area and how far the flickering flames.

Definitely keep trying your phone machine if it is out. I tried all day and gave up. After reading the blog on trying to call again, I did late tonight and it worked.Hooray!

October 25 2007 8:42am - Paradise Mountain has no site of flames and small areas of light smoke. THey can see the sky - still no entry for residence but be assured that the there is heavy patroling being done. Last night the fire crews held the line at Hell Hole Canyon above and had planes dropping all night. THey made a great stand and it worked. Thank you very much for your bravery and skill in saving our homes and Skyline Ranch. Bless all who are onthe fornt lines everywhere.

Skyline Ranch is safe...whoo hoo..Do not know if there were any homes burned by hellhole canyon. I do know that the top of Paradise Mountain looks good. Not through the woods yet - we all need to be extremely careful andlet the firefighters do what they do best.
