Relay for Life captains meeting Monday

RELAY FOR LIFE—The American Cancer Society will hold a Relay For Life event Aug. 20–21 at Bates Nut Farm. Volunteers and teams are very much needed.
The event’s first team captain meeting will be held Aug. 1, 6 p.m., at the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce office, 27301 Valley Center Rd.
Relay for Life events give people in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event and because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or forming a team and helping make this event a success, attend the team captain meeting or contact Sarah Mason at sarah.mason@cancer.org or 951-203-8978 for more details. Or visit them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/relayvalleycenter

Donations needed

Sherry Bumgardner needs donations so that she can captain her team for the third year in a row to raise funds to fight and help find the cure for breast cancer.
She told The Roadrunner: “I am asking everyone I know to help me reach my goal this year. I don’t know of anyone who hasn’t had this horrible disease touch their lives in some way. I take personal pride in my annual involvement in such a wonderful event to do just that. I pray that we can stop the next victim from having to go through what my mom, my best friend Kymberli, and my business colleague Jacki, have had to endure, as well as the thousands of others affected by this, as we speak.”
To donate call her at 760-749-4599, or send donations to POB 2213, Valley Center, CA 92082. Make checks payable to Susan G. Komen and put Survivor Crop/Sherry Bumgardner, in the memo. All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.
