Evacuees at the high school this morning were greeted by Principal Ron McCowan, who offered hot coffee and sandwiches.
Reportedly Chairman Allen Lawson of the San Pasqual Tribe paid for over 150 dinners for the evacuees.
Joy Justis, who retired just a few months ago as fire marshal, is back in harness for a few days anyway. She was answering phones at the Valley Center Fire District office (751-7600) which was staying open all night to keep residents informed.
The latest word is that the fire that is threatening the Wild Animal Park and some homes on Lake Wohlford is stalled so that it has not made a pass at Valley Center just yet.
Of course, with changes in the wind, anything can happen in the morning.

Hi David,
Thanks so much for your blog. We evacuated Woods Valley this morning when we saw the smoke from what we thought was Paradise Mountain, but was probably Wild Animal Park/Lake Hodges. We are in Temecula where it seems windier than when we were in VC...but we did not want to face a panic evacuation! After searching many websites, TV news, etc... I remembered to check the Roadrunner... so thankful for a "local" viewpoint and information!
Also, Dennis wanted me to let you (and VC readers) know that the Woods Valley Golf Course will be closed tomorrow Tues. 10/23. The parking lot is open for anyone who needs to park vehicles, RV's or equipment.
Again, thanks so much for keeping us updated.
