RAIN OR SHINE, THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

We are quite sure that everyone within the sound of this blog will be happy to hear that the Valley Center Stamped Rodeo is going to go forward tonight! "Rain or shine, we're going ahead!" a rodeo spokesman told The Roadrunner late this afternoon. So put on your best Western Duds, and over that a raincoat, and head for Bates Nut Farm. We still haven't heard what the weather will be like for tomorrow's parade, but our fingers are crossed.

TONIGHT'S RODEO THREATENED BY RAIN

Valley Center Stampede Rodeo chiefs are assessing the situation this afternoon as steady rain continues to come down. They are considering whether or not tonight's show will be on considering that rain is still coming down. The gates open at 4 p.m. and the show is supposed to go on at 7 p.m. As soon as we know what the final determination is for this evening we'll post it.

SPECIAL MEETINGS

There will be two special meetings this week in Valley Center:

FIRE BOARD
The Valley Center Fire Protection District board will meet this Thursday, May 29, 6 p.m. at STATION 73 28205 N. Lake Wohlford Road. Note: This is a change from the usual location of the meetings, which are held at the VC Water District board room. The board will consider two resolutions that will take it further down the road in the creation of a Mello-Roos Community Facilities District. This would provide some extra funding for the district from NEW CONSTRUCTION, not existing homes.

The resolutions under consideration will be as follows:

• Proposal to adopt Resolution No. 2008-08 adopting local goals and policies concerning the use of the Mello-Roos Community Facilities Act of 1982.

• Proposal to adopt Resolution No. 2008-09 regarding the intention of the Board of Directors of the Valley Center Fire Protection District to form Community Facilities District No. 2008-1 and to authorize the levy of special taxes therein.

SCHOOL BOARD

The VC-Pauma Unified School District board will meet Tuesday, May 27, 6 p.m. at the VC High School media center (that's library for those of you who remember books).

The main items on the agenda are the following:

• The Board will consider awarding the bid for the Valley Center High School
Track and Field Project. On April 28, 2008, the District issued a Notice to Contractors calling for bid on Bid #04-2008; the Valley Center High School Track and Field. The recommended bid award is Byrom Davey, Inc.

• Public Hearing on the issue on whether evidence exist to revoke the All Tribes
American Indian Charter School charter.

The latter item is the last step to be taken before the board formally votes to revoke the charter of the school on the Rincon reservation.

The public is invited to both meetings.

STORM AND DRANG

Unexpectedly heavy rains and lightning this afternoon are causing the Valley Center Fire Dept. to run around checking out reports of strikes. There is also debris on the road at the intersection of Hwy 76 & Cole Grade Road.

Our reporter is roaming the valley looking to see if there are any damages. We'll let you know what we find out.
